The fourth annual Festival in 2012 secured its place as one of the top cultural offerings in Houston with 45 screenings of films about the arts, over 60 guest artists and cultural experts, 36 Q&A sessions with filmmakers, 3 Meet the Makers panel discussions, 7 venues (6 within walking distance of each other or accessible by light rail).  The Festival was supported by over 77 sponsors, 85 members and contributors, and 100 volunteers.  Collaborations with other non-profit organizations were also instrumental in the Festival’s success.  Highlights from the programming included the new Cinema of the Verge interactive media art installation gallery, a sold out Conversation with Robert Redford, who received the Society’s Levantine Cinema Arts Award for his contribution to independent film and the arts, and Film Festival Field Trip which brought over 600 students to attend free screenings and workshops that allowed them to interact with filmmakers.

Houston Cinema Arts Festival is devoted to films by and about artists in the visual, performing and literary arts. The 2012 Festival program involved collaborations among many of Houston’s extraordinary film and arts institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Aurora Picture Show, Asia Society, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, Sundance Cinemas, Project Row Houses and Blaffer Art Museum. The Festival is a vibrant multimedia arts event that breaks out of the confines of the movie theater through live music and film performances, outdoor projections, and more.
