Julydoscope 2013: Art, Dance, Film, and Hairspray! Free!

Hairspray and Dance!

The 3rd annual Julydoscope is a FREE evening of Art, Dance, and Film on July 20, 2013.

Julydoscope begins with high-energy, multi-dance company performances at 6:30 PM, followed by a screening of the original 1988 Hairspray at 8:45 PM. All events are free.

Location: Anheuser-Busch stage at Discovery Green in downtown Houston.

Directed by John Waters (1988; USA; 92 mins; Color)

Ricki Lake stars as big hair teenager Tracy Turnblad who auditions for television and wins a coveted spot to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show”. Talented, ‘pleasantly plump’ and eager-to-learn, Tracy gains enough confidence to face off her rival Amber Von Tussle and fight accepted conventions of the 1960s. Get your dancing shoes and Hairspray on!

This film was the inspiration for the Broadway musical and is rated PG. This is also an LGBT event part of the QFest festival. www.qfest.org
