Here [The Story Sleeps]

With live music by the Boxhead Ensemble
Director: Braden King
Running time: approximately 70 minutes
Cosponsored with the Aurora Picture Show, Here [The Story Sleeps] is a multiscreen musical presentation and deconstruction of outtakes from HERE (the feature film that screens Friday), accompanied by King’s long-term musical collaborators, the Boxhead Ensemble. The production premiered at the Museum of Modern Art in 2010. The performance projects three separate images at once, all showing fragments of the same environment while live musicians perform beneath the screen. Director Braden King, known for his stunning documentary, Dutch Harbor: Where the Sea Breaks Its Back, as well as countless music videos for musicians, including Sonic Youth and Dirty Three, creates a mesmerizing exhibition wherein live music and film combine to create a living dream.
Initially joining forces to create the critically acclaimed soundtrack to Braden King and Laura Moya’s film, Dutch Harbor: Where the Sea Breaks Its Back, members of the Boxhead Ensemble’s rotating lineup have participated in such notable musical groups as Wilco, Cat Power, Souled American, Freakwater, Gastr del Sol and Dirty Three, among others.
